Tears of the Kingdom: Dragons!

Spoiler alert!

If you have played The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you may have encountered enormous fantastical beasts gliding through the sky. Seemingly unreachable. They are accompanied by a mystical tune that indicates one is close by. All you need to do is look up. During an exploratory adventure, I found that I was able to use the paraglider to land on one of the dragons. After some googling, I found out that there are four dragons each representing some form of elemental; fire, ice, lightning, and light. They are named: Dinraal, Naydra, Farosh, the nameless Light Dragon, respectively.

The first encounter was Naydra, the ice dragon. I found them in the northern Necluda region diving into one of the chasms. At the time, I happen to be higher up in elevation than the dragon, so I was at a “let’s see what happens…” decision, and I jumped off the mountain with the paraglider. My intent was to just dive into the unexplored chasom if I bumped into the dragon and fell. Much to my delight, I was able to land on the dragon! Now what to do. The first thing I noticed was that the temperature was freezing. Not good, I will loose health. So, I equipped some warmer clothes.

I must have clung to the vertical beast for a long time before I figured out I was safe and I could climb up and down the body of the beast. Eventually, I figured out how to move around the body, and made my way to the top of the dragon. Now I was basically clinging to it for dear life. I crawled my way to one of the spines and started to climb up it. I found out that I can stand upright. Wonderful! Now I started to get more courageous, and made my way along the back spine of Naydra.

I was now fully through the chasm and flying vertically over the landscape of the deep-down. What a breathtaking sight. I took a few pictures and just rode on for what seemed like an eternity. As I was making my way along it’s spine I noticed that there were pick-up items embedded in some of the protruding spikes on Naydra’s back. These are spike fragments, and are a powerful resource. I made my way up to the head to see how many spikes I can gather.

Eventually, Naydra made a slow ascent through another chasm from the underworld to the above ground. I stayed put and tool the long vertical trip. Now over the main land, I took another long ride to take in the beauty of the landscape. What a magnificent game mechanic!

During another session, I found another dragon. This time in the north between the Akkala Highlands and Death Mountain. I also managed to paraglide on to them, take a long ride, and harvest some spikes.

I have yet to ride the remaining two dragons!
